Police say that an Uber driver, who allowed his customer to drive while he took a nap, woke up to find himself in the middle of a police chase.
According to the Press and Sun-Bulletin, 20-year-old Juan Carlos, from the Bronx, hired the services of 43-year-old Uber driver Corey Robinson, from Philadelphia, on Saturday to drive him from Philadelphia to a college just under five hours away.
During the trip, Robinson asked Carlos to drive the 2016 Hyundai Sonata rental so he could take a nap. While he slept, Carlos was clocked driving 86 miles per hour on Interstate 81 near the Pennsylvania border.
When troopers attempted to pull him over, he sped up. Robinson woke up and asked why Carlos was driving fast. Carlos informed him that they were being chased by police, according to the Press and Sun-Bulletin. He then told Carlos to pull over.
Troopers lost sight of the car, but eventually saw that it had crashed into a guardrail. Carlos and Robinson were taken into custody after being treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
Robinson was released without charges, and Carlos was charged with several traffic violations including third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer and driving without a license.
Both men have been suspended from using Uber.
