Single dad learns cosmetology so he can style daughter's hair

Feb 4, 2015

Like many dads, Greg Wickherst did not have a lot of experience in hair styling. So, when he and his wife split, and he obtained primary custody of his daughter, Izzy, he struggled to do much more than part the nearly three year old's hair.

Recognizing his lack of beauty skills, he reached out to the experts. An admissions counselor at IntelliTec College in Colorado, Wickherst tapped his school's cosmetology department for some tips.

“I asked them to give me some pointers,” he told ABC News. “I learned a bunch of different styles. I also found it was a bonding experience between me and my daughter.”
Now he can do everything from a high bun to a fishtail braid. After sharing some of his success stories on his Facebook page, his photos attacted  a lot of recognition, launching him into super daddy territory.
“It’s really crazy that it has gotten all the attention it has,” Wickherst told ABC. “All I did was I took an interest in doing my daughter’s hair. It shows people that dads can do this kind of stuff and I absolutely love it.”
