The luxury hybrid Tesla brand is looking to turn its brand up a few notches, literally.

According to Ars Technica, Telsa CEO and founder Elon Musk announced on a press call Friday that a "ludicrous mode" will be available as an enhancement to the automaker's Model S.

"Ludicrous mode" is a $10,000 enhancement that will take the car from 0 to 60 MPH in 2.8 seconds, which makes it a half-second faster than the McLaren F1, according to Ars.

As for the inspiration? "We are just trying to make awesome cars," Musk said, according to MarketWatch.

Tesla Model S owners can also pay an additional $3,000 for a 90 kWh battery, which is an upgrade from its standard 85 kWh unit, according to Ars. The change adds an additional 15 miles of range at the 65 MPH speed level.
