A handwritten love letter from President John F. Kennedy to his alleged mistress, Mary Pinchot Meyer, is up for auction.
The four-page letter was written just one month before JFK's assassination in 1963, auction organizer Robert Livingston told WMUR-TV. The White House seal is cut off from the top.
Livingston says the letter was to Kennedy’s alleged mistress, Meyer, but it was never sent. His secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, saved the letter.
"Why don't you leave suburbia for once – come and see me – either here – or at the Cape next week or in Boston the 19th," the letter reads. "I know it is unwise, irrational, and that you may hate it – on the other hand you may not – and I will love it. You say that it is good for me not to get what I want. After all of these years – you should give me a more loving answer than that. Why don't you just say yes."
The letter is just a few sentences long, but is written in large script on four pages. According to WMUR, Meyer was mysteriously killed in 1964.
Kennedy’s alleged affairs became public after his death.
The letter is expected to sell at auction for $30,000.
