A salmonella outbreak linked to frozen tuna has sickened 13 people in seven states since January, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Investigators have traced the outbreak to frozen raw ground tuna sourced by JK Fish of Vietnam and sold by Louisiana-based Jensen Tuna.
The company just announced a recall for three lots of individually packaged 1-pound bags and 20-pound boxes. The lots are Nos. z266, z271, and z272, according to the CDC.
The agency is warning that the outbreak could spread.
"Jensen Tuna distributed product to all the states where ill people were reported but the recalled product might have been redistributed to additional states," CDC officials said in an alert on the outbreak.
So far, people in Washington State, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and New York have been sickened by the tuna, including two who were hospitalized. There have been no deaths linked to the contaminated fish.
The Food and Drug Administration said the ground tuna was likely used in menu items sold at restaurants and in grocery stores.
