Cut and packaged watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew and fruit medley products containing those melons were recalled over possible salmonella contamination, the Food and Drug Administration said Friday.
Caito Foods initiated the recall and stopped making and distributing the products, which are linked to a salmonella strain in 93 reported illnesses, including 23 hospitalizations, health and food safety officials said.
The fruit was sold at various retailers, including Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Target, Kroger and Walmart. A full list is available on the FDA website.
The products were sold in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
In 2018, Caito Foods was part of a similar salmonella outbreak linked to precut melon products.
