On Wednesday, an employee of a Kansas City, Missouri, shipping company brought a kitten they had found in a shipping container to the KC Pet Project, shelter officials said in a Facebook post. The kitten was found with two other kittens, which had died.

The employee said the kitten was found in a container that usually isn't opened for one to two weeks -- meaning it survived roughly that entire time.

Shelter staff named the male kitten “Cargo.” He was starving and severely hydrated, so staff got to work administering emergency treatment to him. After giving Cargo fluids Wednesday afternoon, a veterinary technician took him home and got him to eat some food.

Cargo is now on the road to recovery, the post said.
