Investigators found nearly 50 pounds of cocaine in a container at Port Everglades that was hidden in boxes of oranges shipped from the Dominican Republic, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

Customs officers had concerns about a container and a K-9 sniffed out a white, powdery substance in multiple boxes, officials said on Wednesday. It tested positive for cocaine and is valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"CBP teams work tirelessly to detect illicit trafficking of people, drugs, weapons and currency while facilitating legitimate trade and travel, " acting Port Director Stephen Silvestri said in a statement.
