Actress Carol Lynley, who starred in the 1972 film, "The Poseidon Adventure," died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. She was 77.

Lynley's death was confirmed by her friend, actor Trent Dolan, Variety reported.

Lynley's career included stints in movies, television and commercials. She debuted during the 1950s in ads for Clairol and Pepsodent, Entertainment Weekly reported. She also appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1955, and posed for Playboy 10 years later, the website reported.

Lynley made her film debut in the 1958 Disney family drama, "The Light in the Forest." She also starred in "Return to Peyton Place," "Under the Yum Yum Tree" and "Bunny Lake is Missing."

"The Poseidon Adventure" was Lynley's biggest hit. The doomed ship's onboard singer performed "The Morning After," which won an Academy Award in 1973 for best song, Variety reported.

Lynley was born Carol Anne Jones on Feb. 13, 1942, in New York City, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her film persona was one of the blonde-girl-next-door gone bad, the website reported.

Lynley also appeared on television shows like "Kojak," "The Big Valley," "Mannix," "It Takes a Thief," "Hawaii Five-O" and "Night Gallery," Variety reported.

Lynley was married to publicist Michael Selsman from 1960 to 1964, the website reported. The couple had one daughter, Jill Victoria, before they divorced, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
