Police: Woman escapes handcuffs, steals weed from cops, eats it


A woman arrested in Central Florida escaped handcuffs and ate marijuana that police had confiscated from her car, police said.

Tavish Smith was originally pulled over in Cocoa on June 13 for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to WPLG – Miami. She had crashed her truck twice and driven the wrong way down U.S. 1.

Surveillance video in the back of the police car appeared to catch her escaping handcuffs and eating confiscated pot that police had found in her car. When asked by an officer if she was still in her handcuffs, Smith, who works for a Brevard County, Fla., judge, giggled and confessed to breaking free.

"Bags of weed just don't go missing inside a police car," the officer said.

Police added that Smith denied eating pot, but she left crumbs throughout the car, and pot was on her hands and face, according to WPLG.

Smith, originally charged with misdemeanors for hit-and-run, DUI and drug possession, was hit with a felony for destroying the evidence. Gawker reported that she was released on bail and is awaiting trial.
