Police told local media outlets the 16-year-old Wando High School student was visiting his girlfriend Sunday night in Mount Pleasant when he saw the message. He sent a message back to 17-year-old Lucas Cavanaugh daring him to come over and he would kill him.

Investigators say Cavanaugh went to the house and the teens started to fight. Cavanaugh was stabbed in the chest and the other teen left the scene.

Police say his mother brought him back to talk to police.

The teen is in custody, charged with murder. His attorney says it is too early to decide if he will claim self-defense.
