Police: Shooting at family party leaves one child dead,...

A 9-year-old girl was shot dead during a family party Saturday night, police said.

Two adults and another child were injured, police said.

Those three victims are expected to survive.

There was a party in the front yard when shots rang out, CMPD officials said.

“It’s a sad state of affairs. We have a lot of soul searching to do when as a city, and as a country, a 9-year-old girl isn’t safe playing in her front yard,” Charlotte police officials said following the deadly shooting.

Authorities are looking for the suspect(s) responsible.

The motive of the shooting is unclear.
