Spencer Stone, the U.S. Air Force Airman who landed in the spotlight after he helped to stop a terrorist attack on a train in France, has suffered from a knife attack.

Video has now been released of the brutal assault.

The Air Force said Thursday that Stone was repeatedly stabbed in an attack while in California and is being treated for injuries at a hospital.

Spencer was trying to defend a friend while they were at a bar when a fight broke out.

He was stabbed multiple times and it was orginally thought that he wouldn't survive.

Thankfully, he is now in stable, but serious, condition and the Air Force is investigating the incident.

Earlier in the summer, Stone and two other Americans overtook a gunman who opened fire with an assault-rifle on a high-speed train in France.

The three were hailed as heroes and Stone received the Airman's Medal and the Purple Heart.
