According to The Associated Press, Laquanda Newby, 25, was originally charged with leaving her children in the car May 26 outside a Sam's Club. When she went to the Henrico County Courthouse for booking on Monday, she allegedly left two boys, ages 6 and 1, in the vehicle again with the windows rolled up and the keys on the floor.
Witnesses saw that the children were alone in the car and told deputies, who brought the kids inside the courthouse, WTVR reports. The boys may have been inside the car for two hours while temperatures reached the 90s, according to the AP.
"Their shirts were wet, sweat rolling off their brows," Henrico Sheriff's Capt. David Kinkle told WTVR. "They seemed to be OK, but it was very hot."
Newby, who was charged with multiple counts of contributing to the delinquency or abuse of a child, was released from jail Wednesday on $2,000 bond, the AP reports.
