Police say a man was shot in the foot after he had a staring contest with someone at a gas station on the Southside.

The incident happened at the Murphy's Express gas station at 11930 Beach Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The victim told police he was a passenger in a vehicle and had a staring contest with someone, who then shot him in the foot. No words were exchanged in the incident.

Police are not sure if the person who shot the man was male or female.

The driver of the vehicle took the man who was shot to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
