An off-duty Fulton County, Ga., deputy had his vehicle stolen Monday while he was stopped to check on people involved in a crash, authorities said.
Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Franka Young said the deputy was checking on the wreck at I-285 and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway about 8:50 a.m. when someone stole his Land Rover. Specifics about how the vehicle was stolen were not immediately available.
The vehicle was located nearby, however, and a pursuit ensued.
“The suspect fled the vehicle on foot," Young said.
An individual was detained, Young said, but their specific involvement with the incident was not clear.
There were no crashes or injuries reported in the chase.
It was unclear if the deputy’s service weapon and badge were in the vehicle when it was stolen.
