Police in Calif. are warning residents to "be bear aware" and lock their vehicle doors.

Truckee police responded to a call on Oct. 26 of a bear cub trapped in a truck.

Authorities said the door closed on the bear, locking it inside while its mother was outside.

The mama bear tried to free her cub but ended up breaking the door handles.

Truckee police officers used beanbag rounds to divert the mama bear away while they freed the cub.

Video shows an officer breaking a window to "create an exit route for the cub."

Department officials reminded residents on Twitter to always lock your doors.
