A family is grieving after receiving tragic news about one of its children Thursday.
The body of 5-year-old Noah Thomas was found in an empty septic tank on their property Thursday morning, according to the Roanoke Times. The boy had been missing since Sunday.
Pulaski County authorities have sent the body to medical examiners and say no one is currently in custody.
Police discovered the body in the septic tank during a third "more aggressive and detailed search" of the area, according to the paper.
The boy's parents had been under heavy scrutiny during the investigation but fully cooperated with the authorities during the search, according to the report. Relatives of the family, the boy's aunt and uncle, have been speaking on the parents' behalf.
It is unclear what the next steps of the investigation are now that the body has been discovered, the paper said.
