Over 50,000 people have signed a change.org petition to create a law that would hold zoo visitors liable if an endangered animal is harmed or killed due to negligence of visitors.

The petition for ‘Harambe’s Law’ specifically mentions zoo visitors — both parents and children — as parties responsible for animals’ safety.

The petition is directed to Ohio Rep. Denise Driehaus and state Sen. Cecil Thomas.

Zoo officials have said they plan to conduct their own investigation to find out how the child was able to enter the exhibit. according to WCPO.
