Redmond and Bellevue fire crews joined those from Kirkland fire, along with Kirkland police. The crews were able to free the victim from the crane within about an hour, Kellie Stickney with the City of Kirkland said.

The crane operator was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in unknown condition.

Kirkland authorities said the crane did not fall onto a road and no one else was hurt.

The Department of Labor and Industries is investigating what caused the crane to tip.

The mobile crane is much smaller than the tower crane that collapsed in Seattle on April 27.
