According to CNN, Cole Dotson, 18, of Continental noticed the flag outside his school, Continental High, had fallen Sunday. He quickly called his grandmother, a school employee, for help and held up the flag to keep it from touching the ground.

"When your son calls his grandmother and says he has a problem....it's usually not good," Pester wrote. "This is where she found him this morning. The flag fell to the ground, he saw it, stopped and held it until someone from school could come and put it back up. Proud of you Cole Dotson! There is hope for America! Ooh rah! #bleedingredwhite&blue"

"He takes great pride in our country, and he knows how to show proper respect to the flag," Mengerink told CNN.

Dotson graduates from high school Sunday and plans to meet with officials about joining the Marines, CNN reports.
