A Lafayette police officer is on suspension for pushing a suspect out of his wheelchair.

Dash cam video shows the altercation between Lt. Tom Davidson and Nicholas Kincade, 25, at a Lafayette charter school. Officers were called out to the school back in October, after Kincade claimed he had a .45-caliber handgun.

Police later confirmed Kincade, who is paraplegic, did not have a gun, but did have a knife.

Kincade was asked to leave school property, but as he did, he ran over the officer's leg. That's when Davidson shoved Kincade's wheelchair.

Lafayette Police Chief Patrick Flannelly said the move violates department rules on use of force and "common sense."

Davidson has since been demoted and suspended from the department for 30 days.
