A Charlotte-Mecklenburg officer paid for the hotel room of a couple after they were kicked out.

Providence Division Officer Will Reinke was called to East Independence Boulevard on a report of a husband and wife who had lost their room at the Budget Inn.

Arkita Smith-Burns, who is pregnant and has health issues, and her husband, Karlos, were preparing to sleep in the in the grass beside the highway when officers arrived.

The couple had lost their room because they were out of money.

Karlos had just been hired for a temporary job that day but had not been paid yet.

Reinke checked all the shelters and found they were all full.

The officers took the couple to a local hotel and got them settled in. Reinke paid for their room so they didn't have to spend the night sleeping alongside Independence Boulevard.
