Deputies responding to calls of a baby crying discovered a newborn buried alive near a riverbed Friday.
Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who were listening for "muffled cries," found the child under asphalt, rubble and inside a crevice near a bike path as they searched an area near Compton, California, according to officials.
Deputies uncovered the baby, who officials believe had been born within the last 36 to 48 hours, swaddled in a blanket and cold to the touch, according to officials.
The baby was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital where she is in stable condition, according to investigators.
Investigators are asking the public for help to identify the child.
