It is already illegal to smoke in most public places in New Jersey, but now the state government may be legislating where you can and cannot smoke in private.
If a proposed law passes, it will make it illegal to smoke in a car with anyone under the age of 17 inside, WTXF is reporting.
Senate Bill 2883 would make it a ticketable offense and the bill's co-sponsor, Assemblyman Charles Mainor, said it's all to protect children.
One woman told the station that New Jersey is overstepping its bounds.
If passed, WTXF reported, smoking with a minor in a car would be a secondary offense and will come with a $100 ticket.
The station reported the bill has been introduced before, but didn't have enough support to pass in the past.
