The Naval Academy is mourning the loss of one of the school's midshipman.
The student, whose name has not been released, was confirmed by the Secretary of the Navy during a speech at Annapolis Wednesday morning, The Navy Times reported.
Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said the midshipman was a sophomore and was on leave, heading home at the time of the crash.
Mabus was at Annapolis for previously scheduled event. The school ended it's academic year Tuesday, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Mabus told those in attendance, "I know that the brigade and the Navy family is struggling with this, and our thoughts go out to the family, friends and brigade for the loss of this crucial member of this institution," The Navy Times reported.
