Cincinnati, Ohio, police Sgt. James Givens told WKRC that the goose approached his cruiser Monday and refused to leave him alone.

“It kept pecking and pecking, and normally they don’t come near us,” Givens said. “Then it walked away, and then it stopped and looked back, so I followed it and it led me right over to the baby that was tangled up in all that string.”

The string was attached to a Mother’s Day balloon. Givens called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, but no one was available to help.

So Spc. Cecilia Charron took matters into her own hands. Charron, who is a mother herself, picked up and untangled the gosling.

Givens recorded video of the unexpected rescue mission.
