A mother in Colorado Springs is accused of leaving her three children in a hot car while she went to a tanning salon.

The children, aged 10, 8 and 18 months began yelling and caught the attention of a passerby. Police were called and arrived immediately, according to KKTV.

Police say the car windows were left slightly open. The outside temperature was 85 degrees at the time of the incident. A car left in the sun can reach a temperature of over 120 degrees in just five minutes, according to police.

It took police nine minutes to locate the mother, who was found inside a tanning salon.

The 33-year-old mother, who was not named by authorities, received a ticket for misdemeanor child abuse.
