"Jersey Shore" star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is a free man.
TMZ reported the 37-year-old reality TV personality has been released from prison after serving an eight-month prison sentence for tax evasion. He was released at 6:30 a.m. local time.
"We are elated to finally close this chapter of our life. Thank you to our family, friends and fans for the continuous love and support during this time. It brought us so much peace and comfort," Mike Sorrentino's wife, Lauren Sorrentino, 34, said in a statement to UsWeekly Thursday.
“We look forward to continuing our life as husband and wife and working on baby situations," the statement continued. "We truly believe that the comeback is ALWAYS greater than the setback and we can’t wait to show the world ours.”
Sorrentino pleaded guilty to tax evasion in January 2018 and was sentenced to federal prison in October 2018. He and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, were accused of filing falsified tax returns on an income of almost $9 million, according to NBC News. He surrendered to authorities at Otisville Federal Correctional Institution, MTV News reported.
Marc Sorrentino is serving a two-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to aiding in the preparation of a fraudulent tax return.
Included in Mike Sorrentino's sentence is two years of supervised release, a $10,000 fine and 500 hours of community service.
