Live television is always full of surprises, and sometimes the way a TV personality handles them can make or break their career.

If that's how we measure the merit of a meteorologist, then Fox 10's Cory McCloskey could be the next Walter Cronkite of TV weathermen.

Standing in front of a temperature map of the greater Phoenix area on Wednesday, the current temperature readings took on a mind of their own...soaring above 1,000 degrees in several spots.

The glitch would have sent a lesser meteorologist into a meltdown, but not McCloskey.  He calmly joked about the searing heat and said people should probably evacuate.

He even said in jest that the town of Wickenburg was a "total loss."
