Meet "Happy."

He's McDonald's new Happy Meal mascot, meant to promote healthy eating, and he's all over social media.

By Tuesday morning, dozens of media outlets added the mascot to their morning news mix, many describing the character as 'terrifying.'

McDonald's original tweet introducing Happy has also been retweeted more than 600 times and favorited nearly 300 times.

And the numbers are growing.

But this isn't Happy's first rodeo. The mascot was reportedly introduced in France back in 2009, then rolled out across Latin America and the rest of Europe.

Now, the U.S. is launching the wide-eyed, smiling figure, along with a new low-fat yogurt for kids, later this week.
