There is nothing a Marine can't do if they have their fellow Marines to support them.

John Nelson and Jonathon Blank served together in Afghanistan a decade ago.

They forged a connection and friendship that still exists today.

They were even together when Blank was wounded by an explosive device. Nelson was standing near Blank right before the device went off, but had stepped away seconds before. Blank lost both legs, KSTU reported.

The two still hike together despite Blank's injury, and Nelson recently helped Blank get to the top of Mount Timpanogos by carrying him on on his back the entire 14.3 miles and climbing 4,500 feet.

Other hikers saw what one Marine did for the other, and couldn't imagine what they've been through. It also inspired them.
"When you see that, you see that determination for them to do what they do, and you want to do that for you and your families," Nate Laired told KSTU.

Blank also hopes his situation inspires others who don't think they can accomplish a goal.

"Not only have I lived through this, but we're also special operations guys. We can do anything. We can maybe instill that mindset into other people," Blank told the television station.

Now that they conquered Mount Timpanogos, they have another adventure ahead of them. They're going to hike Mount Whitney's 14,500 feet, KSTU reported.
