A manhunt is underway after an Alexander County sheriff’s deputy found two people trying to bury a body in the Ellendale community, officials said.
Investigators have a man and a woman in custody, but investigators don't know if there are other people involved. Officials are also searching for a weapon.
A K-9 has been brought in to help with the search.
Investigators said the car driven by the two, who are believed to be from Charlotte, got stuck and they ran off.
Deputies said they found a body nearby.
Ellendale Elementary is on lockdown as a precaution.
