A man celebrating his birthday at the beach with some friends Tuesday helped make a wish come true for a man suffering from dementia, who wanted to ride a wave.

The man's wife told Ryan Giancola that her husband had about a year to live and wanted to ride a wave one last time. Giancola and his friends got the man onto a boogie board and safely helped him enjoy the surf, video posted on social media shows.

“What (an) amazing experience,” Giancola said on social media. “And on my birthday nonetheless."
