A man who disappeared after being convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl has been caught.
Gary Simmons was found Saturday night hiding in his girlfriend's attic in Belmont.
Gaston County Sheriff's investigators and Belmont police tracked Simmons to his girlfriend's home after he disappeared Tuesday.
Officers were surveillancing the Belmont home which helped them determine that Simmons was likely inside.
Officers entered the home and realized Simmons was in the crawl space. Simmons came downstairs without incident.
Officers believe Simmons was moving from place to place and wasn't living in the home the entire time he was missing.
Simmons' girlfriend is also facing charges.
Simmons first court appearance after being charged is Saturday night.
