A Washington, D.C., couple started off the month of October with a huge surprise -- but only one half of the couple was in on the secret.
Singer and rapper Alfred Duncan and his girlfriend of three years, fitness trainer and speaker Sherrell Woodward, were married on Oct. 1 in a ceremony at National Harbor, Maryland, hours after Duncan proposed to Woodward.

According to the couple's wedding website, Woodward thought she and Duncan were having a "competitive date day," which Duncan referred to as "servitude day." According to the rules, she had to do everything her soon-to-be-fiance asked her to do.
Throughout the day, Woodward did not have her phone, but Duncan made posts to her Instagram page and his own page documenting each moment with the hashtag #foreverduncan.
A proposal and wedding video uploaded to Duncan's YouTube channel shows he proposed to his wife at noon at a restaurant with some help from Gabriella, 5, Woodward's daughter from a previous relationship.
Gabby brought her mother into a back room filled with family and friends, where Duncan proposed. Hours later, Woodward was preparing for her own surprise wedding at 5 p.m., when she became Sherrell Duncan.
The moment went viral on Instagram with videos getting hundreds of thousands of views. It then spread elsewhere with largely positive comments pouring in from social media.
"You've restored my faith in true love," Jamilah Gasper commented on YouTube.
"I just want to say this was so touching and beautiful -- I can't wait to experience love like this," a commenter wrote on Instagram.
Alfred Duncan spoke highly of his bride, saying, "She makes me go harder, because I see how committed she is to transformation, family, and success. She pushes me, and makes sure that I put God first."
In an Instagram post, the couple thanked others for their support.
