The Memphis Police Department responded to the call around 11:20 p.m.

When officers arrived they found a man with several stab wounds to his back lying in a parking lot. The victim told police a man had asked him for change and a cigarette, and when he did not give the suspect a cigarette, the suspect stabbed him with a pocketknife.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He has since been upgraded to non-critical.
