A man had to be taken to a hospital and treated for exhaustion after spending 10 days in an airport waiting for his online girlfriend to arrive, BBC reports.
And, to add insult to injury, she never showed up.
According to the BBC, Alexander Pieter Cirk, 41, flew to China to visit a 26-year-old woman whom he only knew as Zhang. He told local media he and Zhang had corresponded for two months after meeting in an app.
When she didn't come to pick him up, Cirk refused to leave the terminal for 10 days and ended up needing medical attention for exhaustion, the BBC reports. Zhang said she thought a photo he had sent her of his airline tickets "was a joke," according to the BBC.
