A New Hampshire man was buried in snow for hours Sunday after a roof slide at his home, Boston's WFXT reports.
Firefighters responded to Drew Mullins' Peterborough home about 5:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call from his wife. She said she attempted to rescue her husband after she heard his muffled voice beneath a pile of snow, but she called for help when she realized that she'd never reach him on her own.
Nine firefighters dug out 2 feet of snow to free Mullins after he spent 3 1/2 hours under the snow.
"I was really angry, and I told myself, 'No, you're not going to go out this way,'" Mullins told WFXT.
He was clearing his roof when he said he noticed "the snow rushing off the roof kind of in an avalanche effect."
He was buried and no one was home. At first, he noticed the complete silence, and then he realized that he couldn't move.
“I was thinking about my wife and my daughter and thinking, 'I'm not going out this way,'” he said.
His heavy, panicked breathing created a hole big enough for him to get air, shortly before his wife and daughters arrived home. That was when his wife called for help.
"I'm glad that I'm here," he said.
