Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of Francesco "Frank" Cali, the man believed to be the boss of the notorious Gambino mob family.
According to WPIX-TV, Anthony Comello, 24, of Staten Island, was arrested in New Jersey and will be charged with murder in New York, police said Saturday.
Authorities believe Comello crashed a blue pickup into Cali's SUV and shot him 10 times outside the reputed mob boss' Staten Island home Wednesday night. Cali, 53, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, authorities said.
This marks the first shooting of a New York crime boss in more than three decades. In 1985, Gambino boss Paul Castellano was shot and killed outside a Manhattan steakhouse, The Associated Press reported.
