A flight from Oregon to Alaska was diverted and a man arrested after officials said he tried to kiss a 16-year-old girl who was sleeping next to him on the airplane.

Port of Seattle police arrested a 23-year-old California man, whose name has not been released, on suspicion of fourth-degree assault after the Alaska Airlines flight landed at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Tuesday afternoon.

"Upon learning about the incident, the flight crew acted swiftly and separated the two passengers and the flight was diverted," Alaska Airlines spokeswoman Ann Zaninovich told BuzzFeed News.

Airport spokesman Perry Cooper said the man was cooperative with authorities.

The flight was bound for Anchorage, Alaska and left Portland, Oregon, around 12:45 p.m. local time, airport spokesman Brian DeRoy told BuzzFeed. It departed from Seattle just after 3 p.m.

The teenager stayed on the flight when it left for Anchorage.
