A man in Utah has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault after he confronted his next-door neighbors with a rifle and threatened to kill them while making racist comments, police said.
James Edgar Booth, 27 has been charged in the Oct. 8 incident, in which he threatened Susan Naeata and her family, KSL reported. Naeata said Booth was on the porch of his house, yelling and swearing at her family, including her elderly mother. When Naeata's niece tried to intervene, Booth pointed a rifle at her, KTVX reported.
Family members told KSL that Booth said, "I'm going to shoot you all back to Mexico."
Booth told police that he was only holding a black guitar stand, but video of the incident shows otherwise, KTVX reported. A search warrant was obtained and police found four rifles and ammunition in Booth's home, according to court documents. The rifles appeared similar to what Booth is seen holding in the video, the Salt Lake City Police Department said.
No one was injured during the incident, but a tearful Naeata told KSL that she was really hurt by Booth's actions and words. "I was born and raised here. This is our country too," Naeta said, after telling KSL that her mother raised eight children on her own, all of whom were born in the United States.
