A Louisiana man is behind bars after police said he opened fire at a Shreveport apartment complex Friday, killing a 2-year-old girl and injuring the child's father.

According to the Shreveport Times, Ta'Darius Upshaw, 19, of Shreveport, was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault after he surrendered to police Saturday. He was jailed on $750,000 bond, the newspaper reported.

Police said the deadly shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. Friday at the gate of the Linwood Homes apartment complex. Roderick Robinson, 22; his toddler daughter, Kynsley; and another man were inside a car when someone in a second vehicle began shooting, striking Kynsley in the head and Robinson in the leg, KSLA-TV reported.

First responders rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, where Kynsley died about 1 p.m. Saturday, according to the Times.
