Seafood lovers may want to examine their fish very carefully before throwing it on the grill.
A couple from Arizona made a shocking and disgusting discovery when they saw two live worms crawling on the salmon they purchased from Fry’s grocery store.
In a video posted on Facebook, the worms can be seen wriggling on the salmon, which is still completely sealed.
The couple also show their purchase receipt and the label on the salmon package in the video, to offer proof that the product had not expired.
The wormy fish was returned to the store, where the manager apologized to the couple and offered a full refund. The manager said quality control measures would be addressed with the store’s seafood vendor.
The Arizona Department of Environmental Health told local media that parasites can be found in fish occasionally. While officials stated the seafood would be safe to eat if cooked to at least 140-degrees Fahrenheit, it is best to not consume any fish with visible parasites. Instead, dispose of the product and notify the vendor from where it was purchased so they can perform a safety check of their inventory.
