Video captured the moment a toddler was snatched by a lion that was allowed to roam outside its enclosure at a zoo in Russia.
The lioness was restrained around its neck in the children's play area at the park in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan.
According to the Mirror UK, the animal was sitting between some play equipment. As the child walked by, the lioness jumped out and grabbed the child by the coat with its claws, pulling the screaming toddler to the ground.
The child's mother immediately jumped to the rescue and pulled the boy to safety.
It's not known why the big cat was in the play area. The Daily Mail reported that the lion could have been kept outside its enclosure as part of the "petting zoo" experience, yet no handlers are seen near the animal in the video.
