The world is in peril.

When the powers of wind, water, fire, earth and heart combine, Earth's greatest champion, Captain Planet, is summoned.

Now, the power to bring this classic 1990s cartoon to movie theaters is in the hands of Leonardo DiCaprio.

The star and environmental activist has inked a deal with Paramount through his Appian Way Productions company to produce a movie based on the cartoon series, which aired from 1990-92, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Another version of the show, "The New Adventures of Captain Planet," aired from 1993-96.

The studio is working to get Jono Matt and Glen Powell to write the script, which could have a plotline in which Captain Planet is washed up after not succeeding in his mission to reduce pollution to zero.
