Kayakers rescue armadillo from Texas floodwaters
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
A couple of self-described animal lovers became heroes to one waterborne armadillo when they plucked the struggling, scaly mammal from Texas floodwaters.
Megan Jurasek and her boyfriend spotted the armadillo in the waters near their house, according to KHOU.
“It had run out of strength to swim and was starting to sink,” Jurasek wrote in a Facebook post to KHOU. “We netted it and he rode calmly on the front of the kayak as we took him to higher ground.”
Storms have dumped more than a foot of rain in the Houston area, flooding dozens of neighborhoods and forcing the closure of city offices and the suspension of public transit.
"We both like animals and we couldn't sit idle and let the little guy drown," Jurasek told KHOU.
