Kashi recalls granola products over Listeria risk

Check your cupboards: Kashi is recalling two varieties of granola products for possible Listeria contamination.

According to a news release posted on the Food and Drug Administration's website, the California-based company has issued a voluntary recall of the following:

If you have these items, discard them and contact the company for a full refund.

The products, which were distributed in the continental U.S., "contain ingredients made from sunflower seeds distributed by our supplier, SunOpta, that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes," the announcement said

The bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, as well as high fevers, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. The risk is highest for young children, elderly people and those with compromised immune systems. Pregnant women who get infected can suffer miscarriages or stillbirths.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled Kashi products.
