It can be a grueling job but it is one that pays well.
Still there are not enough drivers to haul goods across the country, Time reported.
American Truckers Association found that companies are currently trying to fill 48,000 jobs according to a new report.
The shortage could be as bad as 175,000 by 2024 once more drivers start to retire and as more people shop online, Time reported.
One reason companies are having a difficult time filling positions is that most of the applicants for the current available jobs are not qualified, the ATA said.
The ATA told Time the average trucker's salary is $73,000, with salaries increasing 8 to 12 percent annually.
