The cast of the Broadway musical “The Color Purple” sang a beautiful tribute of Prince’s “Purple Rain” Thursday evening.
Prince’s friend, Jennifer Hudson, led the cast in the moving rendition.
“I did not expect to have to speak tonight, but God has his way,” Hudson told the audience. “As we all know, today we lost a legend. Jesus, we lost a legend who was a good friend of mine, Prince, who was dear to all of us.”
Prince died Thursday at Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota.
Hudson also honored Whitney Houston at the 54th Grammy Awards, shortly after Houston's death. There, Hudson sang “I Will Always Love You.”
